A Return to Painting
I got first obsessed with Judith and Holofernes, in particular those produced at the Cranach's workshop. I wrote a text about this obsession and the first Judith's, back in 2018. When in London, I asked a couple of friends to pose for me. I was looking for the contrasts between Judith and Holofernes: a soft, lively face contrasted with a rough, fresh corpse. From these, three variations emerged.
You have to have a deep sense of humor to pose with your beloved one like this. I personally love it. We need more moments of fun. I suspect that the relationship between the motifs and the concrete motivations for painting them have been much more rich and diverse than the reasons historians have wanted us to believe.
