Why
I grew up thinking that drawing and painting, writing and walking, were things available to all. I started painting as an adult to give the people I love meaningful images.
As we would talk about life, recurrent dreams, and obsessions, something became clear: our relationship with the world is mediated with images, icons, where there is often a conflict. Through the forge and manifestation of images we can transform our inner psyche. More and more friends and clients reached out to me with the desire of not only a painting to hang on the wall, but with questions, stories, inner landscapes that required some sort of external transformation. A painting can be, simultaneously, a mirror and a window.
How I work commissions
Walking into a painting without a context is similar to seeing some else's dreams. When comissioned, the work starts similar to that of an intruder that just arrived to a country, or as a detective that has to work along with a therapist and a psychic. The work of a medium that, through interviews, gets to know the desires, reasons, and daydreams.
Based on this encounter I set a route. If there are many subjects in the portrait, I would like to know a bit better about them. A portrait is a story that is told in a single frame, and the eye will move around as it moves in front of a text or a moving picture.
After we set the common grounds, I carry on.
